Austin Books & Comics 40 Year Anniversary
2017 marks 40 years of your favorite local comic book store, Austin Books & Comics! In celebration of this, we’ll be having some new features over the next few weeks and months.

We have lots of fun stuff planned throughout the year, so keep an eye out for our ongoing celebration!

We recently asked, Who is your favorite comic book sidekick (hero support) and why? Non-superhero or hero. Animal, vegetable, or mineral.

Frankie (The Goon)
Frankie from The Goon. He’s vulgar, he’s cussing and drinking, he’s “Knife To The Eye!” yet also one of the most loyal friends.

-Russell M.

The Fabulous Frog Man (Spider-Man)
I’m going with Eugene Patilio, aka The Fabulous Frog-Man, self-proclaimed sidekick to the Amazing Spider-Man. The issues where he turned up were some of the most oddball, zany Spidey stories out there! My favorite was when he, Toad, and Spider-Kid competed/fought over who should be a bewildered Spider-Man’s ally. In the end, they ended up forming their own team, The Misfits!

-Scott R.

Ghüs (Saga)
Ghus. No question.

-Ian E.

Alfred Pennyworth (Batman)
Alfred is probably the greatest non sidekick sidekick in comic book history. Countless times he helped Bruce/Batman

-Rusty C.

The Cat (Transmetropolitan)
Who doesn’t love a mutant two faced cat that smokes? A humorous sidekick that made me smile through the whole series. Love that he urinated on everything.

-Jennie B.
