Amazing Spider-Man #31
“If This Be My Destiny!” from Amazing Spider-Man #31-33 has everything! It introduces a couple very important characters, it features a classic villain trying something new, and the most heroic scene in any superhero comic ever. This story is Lee & Ditko at their best.

And “Kraven’s Last Hunt” is the story arc that made me a hardcore comic book fan for life.

Wolverine and the Punisher
For my 11th birthday, my good friend Roland got me the 3 issue miniseries Wolverine and the Punisher: Damaging Evidence. This is when I really got into comics and decided to start collecting issues and trades.

New Mutants Special #1
The Asgardian Wars (New Mutants Special #1 & Uncanny X-Men Annual #9). This is where I fell in love with the work of Art Adams, whose level of detail is still unbeatable; fell even harder for Illyana Rasputin, my first great comic book crush (and the one that persists to this day, if we’re being honest); and began to really embrace the interconnectedness of the Marvel Universe, as the mutants and Asgardian gods — two factions that seemed entirely dissimilar — melded perfectly to tell an epic story. I’ve read this story three times over the years, and it still holds up remarkably well.

Micronauts #2
Marvel’s MICRONAUTS #2 – #3, with art by Michael Golden. Sheer brilliant marketing. The Micronauts flee Baron Karza from the microverse and wind up in our own universe, conveniently (and magically for 10-year-olds everywhere) at the exact same size as the then-current toy line. And of course they are befriended by a teenager, who eventually gets caught in the crossfire of micro-battles resulting in the utter destruction of … his swingset? It was just phenomenal synergy for the time, and made “reliving the adventures” with one’s micro toys pretty meta.

Legion of Super-Heroes #290
Legion of Super-Heroes #290-294 “The Great Darkness Saga”

Featuring every living former & current member of the LSH, all of their 30th Century allies, and the best villain reveal ever.

-Hershal W.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Allan Moore – because it is beautiful, crazy, violent and fun. I never know what kind of insane rabbit hole Allan will lead me down next, but when I get there, I feel like I belong.

-Hilee H.

X-Men: Days of Future Past
Claremont & Byrne’s Days of Future Past, Uncanny X-men 141-142! Seeing the FOX cartoon for the first time got me wanting to read the actual comic and was my gateway into collecting long box after long box.

-Phil B.

Batman: No Man's Land
Batman No Man’s Land is amazing. I love the different districts and people finding ways to survive. You see different sides of characters you think you know well. It all melts into one epic story. I love it!
