New Reader Guide: Wolverine

Welcome to the Austin Books & Comics New Reader Guide! We’re here to introduce some of our favorite books that you may not already know about, and maybe even help you find your next favorite comic series!

Wolverine

Easily the most popular X-Man, the scruffy Canadian anti-hero has a rich history including fighting as a masterless samurai in Japan, working as a SHIELD assassin, and even leading the X-Men. He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does isn’t very nice.

In this guide you’ll find a collection of some of the best-known Wolverine titles.

All titles are available at the store, and if not we will be happy to special order them for you!

Wolverine (1982)

Wolverine (1982)

Wolverine’s first solo outing took him to Japan, where the story delved into the gritty underworld of organized crime, ninja assassins, and samurai tradition for a tale of action, violence, and revenge. Numerous character-defining elements including the “best there is” catchphrase and inextricable ties to Japan were introduced in this series and continue to be referenced today.

Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (1984, miniseries)

Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (1984)

This series saw Kitty and Wolverine heading to Japan in order to save her father from the brutal Yakuza. An essential read for fans of either character, this series introduced the big brother/little sister element to their relationship, which has been one of the most popular parts of both of their histories.

Wolverine: Weapon X

Wolverine: Weapon X (1991)

A look into Wolverine’s past and his origins with the Weapon X project that gave him adamantium bones, this miniseries detailed the brutality of the project and what drove Wolverine to his feral, berserker nature, as well as offered background to some of his character elements and quirks.
